Wisconsin State Journal, May 1 , 1998 Byline: Dave Becker © 1998 Madison Newspapers, Inc. INTERPRETING ERROR MESSAGES Dear Dr. Click: I get two messages displayed op my screen whenever I turn my system on -the first one is IINTS0158:VNSTID - register failed." I have to hit enter for the check to continue. How do I eliminate this message? The second messages "Network password for Microsoft networking needed." It shows my login name, and I'm supposed to enter a password, but I can continue just by clicking cancel. Is there any way I can eliminate this message? - Messaged Out Dear Messaged: Our experts at Anlex Computer Consulting agree with our suspicion that both problems are manifestations of the same basic flaw - your standalone Windows 95 computer mistakenly thinks it's connected to a network. . There are a number of ways to erroneously designate your machine as a network computer during the Windows set-up process, and the results are similar to what you're experiencing. To correct: Go to "Settings" from the Windows Start menu and Click on "Control Panel." Double click on the "Network" icon, and look for the area that says "Primary Network Logon." Change the setting to "Windows Logon." |
