Anlex Computer Consulting
Sonia Yaco was about to enter law school when she fell in love. Was
it someone tall, dark and handsome? Not exactly; short, flashy
and electronic would be more appropriate.
The object of Yaco’s devotion eight years ago was a computer, and
today she's using her expertise to advise clients on business and
medical applications of mini and microcomputers. Yaco's clients have
ranged from large grocery stores and hospitals to small one-person
enterprises. Yaco says she carefully teaches clients how to adapt
their manual procedures to their new computer systems. “I advise them
not to do it all at once," she emphasizes. "The last thing
I want is a frustrated user."
Although the consulting firm trains clients on existing software,
Yaco also creates packages tailor made for specific clients. Initially
she does a computer systems analysis, looking for duplication of effort
and problem areas. For one client, a grocery store, Yaco set up and
debugged its inventory system. And for a hospital in Chicago, Yaco
developed a new language called Anlex (short for "lexical analyzer"),
which she also used to name her company.
Yaco says she especially enjoys designing new systems for clients.
“They can just give me a description of a problem or what they want
done, and I can design a whole new world for them”, she says.
